Luckily in Liberec

Greetings from stormy Liberec, The Czech Republic. We arrived here yesterday after a long and exhausting day.

Sunday was nice and easy driving day. We started the journey from Tallinn around 11:30 am and arrived to Kaunas, Lithuania at 7:30 pm. Via Baltica was in really good condition and it was easy to drive through it. We stopped few times, one time on a beach in Latvia. The beach was really nice but  it actually look better that it was. Water was really dirty and smelled awful. Still there were some people swimming…

Yesterday we woke up early and continued the trip. Our plan was to drive through Poland in one day. We made it but it wasn’t that easy. There are basically only few high ways in Poland. There are also no railways which means that everything is transported by trucks. And trucks on a smaller roads isn’t a good thing. Overriding is difficult and trucks just can’t drive as fast as small cars. And above all after almost 900 km of driving we got stuck in an accident. We had no idea where we were and we didn’t know what had happend. Luckily one girl told us in German that a tank truck had fallen down. There was no other choise but to try to find a new route to Liberec. It took an hour more time to arrive our destination but finally we got here. It took 16 hours over all! I do not recommend that to anyone. Still thinking about it now, it was actually quite funny. We will definitely remember this adventure always and Poland is after all  a beautiful country.

Today in Liberec we first of all slept well but also saw some city. We also visited on a hill called Ješted. There is a tv tower /  hotel / restaurant and also a skiing center. There are really nice views from the hill to the valley where Liberec lies.

Tomorrow we will head to Prague.

Huojentuneet terveiset Liberecistä, Tsekeistä. Saavuimme tänne eilen erinäisten vaiheiden jälkeen.

Reissu alkoi suunnitelmien mukaan Tallinnasta sunnuntaina. Samana iltana saavuimme Kaunasiin, Liettuaan, jossa vietimme ensimmäisen yön. Via Balticaa oli tosi mukava ajella pikkuvaltioiden läpi ensimmäiseen yöpaikkaan. Tiet oli todella hyvässä kunnossa ja liikenne viikonloppuna rauhallista. Pohdimme, että pelkästään baltian maissakin voisi olla kiva joskus reissata autolla. 

Eilen aamulla heräsimme aikaisin toiseen ajopäivään. Suunnitelmissa oli ajaa läpi Puolan. Tiesimme jo etukäteen, että päivästä tulee rankka, mutta näin jälkeenpäin en kyllä suosittele sellaista rykäisyä kenellekään! Tiet ovat pääosin Puolassa hyvässä kunnossa, vaikka kunnon perunapeltojakin löytyy. Ongelma on siinä, että Puolassa ei juurikaan ole moottoriteitä. Koska Euroopassa tavara kulkee lisäksi lähinnä rekoissa, voitte kuvitella, millaista ajo välillä oli. Köröttelyä rekkojen perässä, puolalaisten hulluja ohituksia ja kiristyneitä hermoja. Kaiken päälle juutuimme 900 ajokilometrin jälkeen onnettomuuteen aivan keskellä skutsaa. Pienen pohdinnan jälkeen päätimme muuttaa reittiä, mistä tuli tunnin verran lisäajoa hämärillä ja kuoppaisilla metsäteillä. Jossain vaiheessa meinasi usko loppua, mutta lopulta pääsimme kuin pääsimmekin perille Libereciin.

Täällä olemme ensinnäkin nukkuneet hyvin, mutta myös kierrelleet kaupunkia. Käväisimme myös Ješted-nimisellä kukkulalla, jossa on mielenkiintoisen näköinen rakennelma 60-luvulta. Rakennuksess on sekä ravintola, hotelli että tv-asema. Kukkulalta on muuten upeat näkymät Liberecin yli.

Huomenna näppäilemme navigaattoriin suunnaksi Prahan.
