Geared and ready to go

Tomorrow we will start our 6000km adventure around Europe. Our majestic french wagon has been inspected and a bunch of stuff has been bought. Also crew is ready to rock!

Driver’s best friend on a road trip is a good navigator. Navigators in phones are okay, but I have enough bad experiences with those so I recommend to trust a proper one. This far I have borrowed navi from here and there but now I bought an own TomTom 400 GPS. It has 45 Europe country maps so it practically covers the whole Europe. TomTom has never let me down and this newer model has even more useful characteristics.

Navigator is useless if your car is not in shape. I changed oils before the trip and checked all the critical elements: brakes, liquids, belts, tyre air pressure, battery… Of course you can always take your car to professional garage to check everything 😀

Before a road trip it’s also important to check if some countries require certain gears. For example in the Baltic countries emergency case and fire extinguisher are mandatory to carry in the car. In Austria you have to have the lovely safety vests. And in France you need to have a breathalyzer, just in case that you don´t drive drunk after a long dinner 😀

After mandatory items it´s nice to have some things to make everything more comfortable. A car fridge is a nice way to keep drinks and some small food cold while driving. We got our’s from Verkkokauppa.com.

Since we are driving a lot during our trip it´s important to have the best entertainment with. Finding the best radio stations in different countries can be difficult so I recommend to take a bunch of CDs with or make Spotify offline playlists to conquer the new roads ahead.

In the end there are just little things that you need to remember (passport, car, tickets, a good mood etc.) because most of the stuff you can get on the road. Common sense, open mind and adventurous attitude will carry you all the way back home.

Huomenna lähdetään pienelle 6000km retkelle Eurooppaan. Koska matka on pitkänpuoleinen, joitain asioita on hyvä hankkia etukäteen. 

Paras matkakaveri on oikea ja asiallinen navigaattori. Puhelimissa on nykyään erilaisia navigaattoreita, mutta itse olen joutunut niiden kanssa liiankin usein pulaan ja siksi luotan vain oikeisiin navigaattoreihin. Hankin tätä reissua varten TomTom GPS 400 navin. Olen aiemmin käyttänyt TomTomin eri malleja ja ollut niihin aina hyvin tyytyväinen.

Autolla matkatessa kannattaa etukäteen selvittää, vaativatko jotkut maat autoon erityisvarusteita. Baltiassa ajellessa pakollisia ovat esimerkiksi ensiapupakkaus ja jauhesammutin, Itävallassa vaaditaan aina niin ihania turvaliivejä ja Ranskassa mukana on oltava alkometri, ettei vaan tule ”vahingossa” ajeltua gänässä :D. 

Mukavuuspuoleenkin kannattaa yleensä pitkillä reissuilla jonkin verran panostaa. Matkajääkaappi ja offline Spotifylistat pitävät huolta matkan viihdepuolesta ja perillä uudessa määränpäässä on aina kylmää juotavaa saatavilla. Kesäkuumilla sellainen saattaa olla tarpeen 😀
